How To Wear Cropped Trousers
As the weather (slowly) starts to heat up, we’re looking forward to creating some of our favourite retro-inspired looks with crop trousers. We get a lot of Hell Bunnies asking us how to wear cropped trousers and capri pants, so we thought we would look at some of the best ways to style these wardrobe staples, what shoes to wear with cropped trousers and how to channel your favourite 50’s pin-up.
What style of cropped trousers do I choose?
Finding the right style of cropped trouser can be difficult, especially if you’re petite. Some crop trousers look better than others depending on your body type and you can run the risk of looking like you’re just wearing short trousers rather than capris! Luckily, we’re here to help. So get ready to flash those ankles and dive into the world of crops.
Our Murphy Culottes are ideal for those looking to flash some ankle with a relaxed, wide leg style.
Where should crop trousers end?
Cropped trousers should end between your calf and your ankle, drawing attention to the most flattering part of the leg. When trying on cropped trousers, make sure they don’t sit mid-calf as this will draw attention to the thickest part of the calf. As a general rule of thumb, longer cropped pants should fall no less than two fingers from the ankle. Any longer and you’re wearing trousers!
How to wear cropped trousers if you’re petite
If you’re petite, go for a cropped trouser with a slim leg. There is always a risk when selecting carpi trousers if you’re short that they will make you look ‘stubby’. By going for a tapered leg or a slim-fit, you create a streamlined look that’s flattering to the petite frame. If you do fancy wearing something a little looser, make sure you balance this out with a sleek top half. A tucked in t-shirt or blouse with heels is a timeless look that makes wide-fit capris look incredibly chic.

How to wear Capri trousers
Wanting to recreate that classic 50’s pin-up look? Choose a high-waisted Capri-pant style that will make your legs look longer. The pant cinches in your waistline and creates a flattering silhouette when paired with a tucked in t-shirt. Make sure your pants are comfortable if you’re going for a high-waisted option, you don’t want to end up with the dreaded ‘camel toe’ if they’re too tight around the groin!
Our Charlie Denim Capris are a wardrobe staple if you’re looking for some vintage, high-rise denim
Top Tip: If you have a short torso you may be better suited to mid-rise cropped trousers. This will avoid it looking like your trousers have taken over your upper body!
What shoes to wear with cropped trousers?
When you’re wearing cropped trousers or Capri pants, you want to draw attention down to your footwear. Heels instantly give your look that classic 50’s vibe, whether you go for a glam pointed toe or chunky wedges for a laidback summer look. If you are wearing flats, go bold with a leopard print pump or your favourite pair of Converse. Crop pants were made to show off your shoes, what better time to break out your favourite pair?
